In the traditional understanding of education, there was a structure in the classroom where students passively listened to information and the teacher took on a one-sided role of transferring information. However, today, there is a significant paradigm transformation in the field of education, and "Student-Centered Approach" is at the center of this transformation. This approach aims for students to be active participants in the learning process, to have a learning experience that suits their interests and needs, and to determine their own learning goals. The importance of the student-centered approach lies in making educational processes more efficient and effective and encouraging students' permanent learning.
1. Individualized Learning:
Every student's learning pace, style and needs are different. The student-centered approach personalizes educational content and methods by taking into account the individual differences of students. In this way, each student can learn at their own pace and receive more support on issues they have difficulty with. Individualized learning increases students' self-confidence and enables them to approach the learning process with a more positive attitude.
2. Increasing Student Participation:
The student-centered approach makes students active participants in the learning process. It allows students to select learning materials, create projects, participate in discussions, and guide the learning experience. This allows students to participate more in classes and learn more deeply.
3. Promoting Student Autonomy:
The student-centered approach gives students the opportunity to manage the learning process on their own and take responsibility. Students are allowed to set their own learning goals and develop projects that match their interests. This improves students' self-confidence and helps them discover their own potential.
4. Supporting Lasting Learning:
The student-centered approach encourages permanent learning by removing knowledge from temporary learning based only on memorization. Students better understand topics that are intertwined with interest and context and have the opportunity to apply them to their daily lives. This allows information to remain in longer-term memory and real learning to occur.
5. Increasing Student Motivation:
The student-centered approach increases students' motivation as it enables them to participate in the learning process and take responsibility. Students become more motivated with projects and activities related to their interests. Students' active participation in the learning process, a sense of success and achieving successful results increase students' desire and willingness to learn.
